One year later: flexible working laws

Flexible working laws have been a part of UK working life for over a year now. Have we seen the full benefits? Or is the UK’s workforce still as arthritic and brittle as ever?

Flexible working laws came into effect 1st July 2014. Research has suggested that employers and employees alike are not taking advantage of their options.  

Speaking to HR Grapevine, Jason Downes, Managing Director of Powwownow, said the UK is stuck in the past when it comes to both flexible working and the embracement of remote working: “Considering the technology now available to us, the UK's working culture has become outdated since the majority of UK businesses are still office-based with rigid working hours.

“The technology we have on offer allows us to stay in touch with colleagues, suppliers and customers regardless of our or their location, and services such as conferencing and web-based communication channels enable people to do their ‘traditional’ job whilst out of the office.
