On Thursday 5 November, the Government published the final version of its landmark Keep Britain Working review.
The report, led by Sir Charlie Mayfield, sets out plans to tackle the UK’s long-term sickness problem, with one in five working-age adults now out of the labour force due to health reasons.
It estimates that employers suffer an annual loss of £85 billion due to lost output and turnover associated with sickness.
The cost of ill-health that prevents work equals 7% of GDP, the review says, while the UK employment among disabled people stands at 53%, below leading OECD nations.
