70 female chefs call on the restaurant industry to fix its systemic sexism problem

70 female chefs have signed an open letter condemning widespread sexism in restaurant kitchens, calling for more to be done to tackle systemic inequality in the culinary industry.

The open letter, first reported by The Telegraph, describes the ‘exhaustion’ felt by women working in UK restaurants who face “inappropriate comments and behaviours” and “unequal opportunities for advancement."

“We face issues that must be addressed to create a more inclusive, equitable and positive work environment for all,” the letter said.

The call-to-action is being led by Sally Abé, Chef at The Pem, and Dara Klein, Head Chef at Tiella, whose WhatsApp group for female chefs spurred the creation of the letter.
