John Lewis' 2020 Xmas ad holds key HR teachings

It may only be mid-November, but for some, the countdown to Christmas begins as soon as John Lewis’ annual festive advert comes out – this year with a focus on ‘giving a little love’ to others.

Whilst previous years have featured Excitable Edgar and Sir Elton John, this year’s advert looks a little different. For example, its core message was around acts of kindness and donating to charity, rather than giving gifts.

Yet, it did still depict some playful characters that are normally included in John Lewis' adverts such as snowmen and animals.

This year, John Lewis & Waitrose's Xmas advert is being used to promote a Give a Little Love charity campaign and aims to raise more than five million pounds over the festive period to help 100,000 families through several charities.
