There is no doubt that 2016 has been an eventful year, what with the large number of celebrity deaths, the shocking political changes and the inevitable increase in technological advances.
However, it’s not over yet - and chances are the pace of work hasn’t slowed either. But that’s what the weekends are for, and so we have compiled a list of three things to do this weekend that might inspire some creative thinking when tackling those pressing HR issues…
1. Watch – Suicide Squad
Released on DVD and Blu-ray this week, Will Smith, Margot Robbie and Jared Leto star in Suicide Squad - the uniquely dark comic book film adaptation.
The story is about a collection of convicted criminals with unique abilities that have been brought together to work for the government (just incase the likes of Superman go rogue).
However, in between enjoying the quick quips and fast-paced action, HR professionals can take away a recruitment lesson: Look passed people's past.
Paddy Stanley, Head of the Mitie Foundation, says: “I think more needs to be done to recruit and support people who have been through the care or criminal justice systems, as well as to challenge the misconceptions around hiring these candidates.
“Traditionally, employer engagement in prisons has extended to jobs fairs, tours of prison industry workshops and some very positive local initiatives. Innovation and fresh thinking is required to attract those employers who are not yet confident in recruiting people with criminal convictions.”
