Next faces £30m payout after workers win six-year equal pay battle

Over 3,500 Next workers have won a legal battle for equal pay that lasted over half a decade.

In the final stage of an employment tribunal, it was ruled that Next’s predominantly female in-store staff should not have been paid a lower rate than warehouse workers.

The ruling concluded a landmark six-year-long case that could see the retailer forced to shell out over £30million in compensation to former and current employees.

The case may also have implications for other retailers and supermarkets who face similar claims from their staff.
