Wagamama CEO shares his view on the transition from HR to CEO

In any organisation, the HR function is the lifeblood of employee satisfaction. From keeping staff engaged to getting the right talent into the business – and keeping it retained – HR is vital to organisational sustainability. If HR wasn’t already viewed as an integral function within the business, the pandemic put it front and centre as many employee-related challenges cropped up. In addition, research has suggested that the pandemic has changed the perception of the people function – and for the better. In fact, Sage’s 'HR in the moment: Changing expectations and perceptions of HR' report found that 72% of HR leaders said that the crisis had increased their value and wider understanding of their role across the business.
While the value of the HR function has been proven, what exactly is it that makes a great HR leader? This is what we asked our advisory board experts. Also this month, we spoke to Twitter’s HR Director about her role in the social media giant’s commitment to developing new leaders, as well as share a video interview with Apex Group’s CHRO to learn more about the challenges facing HR leadership.
Plus, for this issue’s cover story, we interviewed Wagamama’s People Director-turned CEO to find out more about transitioning from HR to the top.
As ever, we hope that you find the content in this issue useful and informative!
