Baby Boomers, Gen X and Millennials: what makes them happy at work?

Generation X - born approximately between 1965 – 1980

Currently, 65 million Generation Xers' are in the workforce, and 68% of Inc.500 CEOs are Gen Xers.

Lauren Sveen, President of Mom Corps, a work consulting firm, describes this entrepreneurial group as the “middle children.” She says that to Gen X “view work as a means to an end and thrive in flexible environments focused more on results than face time.”

And so it seems – according to an Ernst & Young survey, 38% of Generation X respondents said they would leave their current job if flexibility wasn’t available, in comparison to 33% of millennials and 25% of baby boomers. In addition, an AARP report from 2012 found that 42% of Gen Xers had a financially dependent child as well as a parent older than 65.
