Feelings and emotions are everywhere. We’re human. Humans have lots of feelings and emotions. So why in business are they rarely encouraged or spoken about?

We’ve all heard the term ‘PMA’ (Positive Mental Attitude) or engaged in conversations around how to stay motivated, driven and passionate. But you won’t often hear dialogue around resentment, anger, rage, shame, fear or despair. These emotions are just as prominent, in fact often more so.

We have between 50,000 and 70,000 thoughts per day, or between 35 and 48 thoughts per minute. Unfortunately, the majority of them are unhelpful. So, is it any wonder that staying in a ‘PMA’ feels impossible? And when we’re not feeling positive, being told that we should be just makes it worse.

‘Never in the history of telling someone to calm down, have they ever calmed down!’

Rising Vibe work in the corporate space. We have a large portfolio of corporate clients and everyone in the team has come from a corporate background. We have a passion for corporate. However, when we were in that world full time, we all experienced the pressure of not feeling able to be ‘real’. In fact, I was once told to ‘change my brand’ to fit in. Thankfully, I never did.

This need to ‘fit in’ creates a breed of what we refer to as ‘corporate contortionists’. Most of us understand that the ‘my way or the high way’ approach is ineffective and being flexible is important. But twisting and bending yourself into painful positions to fit in isn’t helpful and you will never be the best version of yourself. Ever. Fact. Yet we see so many people who have spent so long in these painful positions, they are now stuck. This is of course very unpleasant, but it’s familiar and familiar means safe.

Sharing feelings and emotions that aren’t ‘positive’ is critical to enable performance. There are way too many people pretending that they’re ‘fine.’ Way too many people who talk about stress because it’s more acceptable and less shameful than admitting they feel fear or insecurity. There are way too many people in business crippled by negative emotions and living a contortionist life.

Please visit our website www.rising-vibe.com to discover how we work with our clients to drive high performance by challenging and supporting people to be ‘real’. You can also download our Rising Vibrational Scale, which we use to encourage acknowledgement and ownership of real feelings and emotions.
