Why spreading happiness in the office makes business sense

Low workplace engagement costs the UK £340billion per year, according to figures from UK PLC. Plugging this productivity problem remains high on the agenda of HR departments.

With a study from the University of Warwick revealing that happy and engaged staff are 12% more productive, while unhappy staff are 10% less productive, it is believed that one way to curtail the drain on UK businesses is by improving job satisfaction.

Whilst forcing employees to smile won’t bode well, as forcing happiness at work actually has an adverse effect, Tom Shopland, team building coordinator at Mocean Adventures, believes there are simple changes businesses can make to alleviate disengagement.
