The UK is experiencing a workplace absence resurgence; and with it millions of days of lost productivity and pounds.
According to research by Firstcare and The Centre for Economic and Business Research, workplace absence costs the UK £18billion per year in lost productivity.
“The cost is only set to rise,” says David Hope, CEO of FirstCare. “In 2020, it is predicted to cost the UK economy £21billion and by 2030 it will be £26billion.”
A growing epidemic of presenteeism is also emerging. Research from Fellowes found that over half (52%) of UK employees are still going to work even when they are suffering from work-related health issues, with one third (34%) admitting they have considered moving jobs due to the negative impact of their work environment on their health – the highest percentage across Europe.
