Training Day: Will the new T-level make the grade?

Further education has been the poor relation in recent times, with both primary and secondary education funding increasing considerably over the last 25 years and universities able to levy higher levels of tuition fees.

The announcement on T-Levels in the Spring Budget was, therefore, a breath of fresh air, representing the most significant overhaul to post-secondary education in decades, according to Karen Jones, HR Director at Redrow, speaking to HR Grapevine.

She believes that the announcement represents an important step toward shifting the perception that technical routes are somehow inferior.

“Construction is one of the T-Level streams, which was music to our ears. It is no secret that there is a skills problem in the construction sector, with companies struggling to find skilled individuals to deliver vital homes and infrastructure projects, a situation which may be exacerbated by Brexit. We believe the T-Level could help fill the gap,” she says.
