CEO of City & Guilds Group: 'Age really is just a number'

As the saying goes: age is a case of mind over matter, if you don’t mind, it doesn’t matter. But new research from Anglia Ruskin University suggests otherwise.

Their research found that older workers encounter higher levels of prejudice when seeking work, with one-fifth (22%) less likely to be invited for an interview than younger applicants.

“Unfortunately, that wasn’t news to us,” says Chris Jones, Chief Executive of the City & Guilds Group.

“Recent research by the City & Guilds Group found that nearly a fifth of older workers had experienced discrimination when applying for jobs, whilst three-fifths believe younger colleagues have a poor perception of them. A third of younger workers told us they think their older colleagues’ skills are not relevant enough for tomorrow’s workplace.”
