Tesco forced to pay £10m to staff after payroll error

Shell CEO Ben Van Beurden has seen his total pay climb 60% in 2016 to €8.263million (£7.21million), up from €5.135million (£4.45million) a year earlier. 

Reuters reports that Royal Dutch Shell accounted the hike to deferred bonuses and share plans.

As part of its investment in renewable energy, the company also announced that, starting this year, directors will be rewarded (in part) on how well the company succeeds in managing its greenhouse gas emissions and how much free cash flow it generates.

Beurden said that the "biggest challenge" is “societal acceptance of the energy system”.
