Adhering to executive orders, no matter how strange they may seem, are an unspecified part of many job specs. No one will tell you on your first day that one of the managers likes to listen to The Best of Slade every Friday, or that a Board member wants all employees to do morning exercises to “help with productivity”.
It’s an unwritten rule that, whilst some requests may be bizarre, as long as they’re not technically illegal, they can be acquiesced to.
It’s all about building momentum and morale, and even though you may not want to do your CEO’s daughter’s homework, it’s thought of as character building – so long as it does not cross a line.
Personal Assistants get it worse than most employees – though one could say carrying out bizarre requests falls under their remit.
