Worker sent home for being 'too good-looking' - as research finds 'ugly' salary premium

Workplace sexism has been a media theme of late – with focus on ‘sexist’ dress codes, Piers Morgan’s comments about heels at work and a gender pay gap that continues to impact female salaries.

Now the debate is re-catalysed by claims, from a freelance television worker, that she was fired from work for being “too good-looking” – The Evening Standard reports.

Emma Hulse said she was sent home from her runner’s shift at Unit TV after just five minutes – with her manager making comments about her appearance and suggesting they go for drinks.

Hulse said: “I was wearing a lipstick . . . from my perspective I was not inappropriate. I was wearing a shirt and trousers. I really didn’t think I looked inappropriate. Then he took my number, he suggested we go for a drink.”
