HR Grapevine spoke with Kathryn Porter, Director, Youth Strategy, Europe, Middle East & Africa, Hilton to find out how firms can attract and retain the talent of the future.
How is appealing to the new generation of talent going? What tactics need to be employed?
At present, half the world’s population is under 30. Engaging and connecting with these young people is vital, and can shape the world for the better. This is why the International Youth Foundation, in partnership with Hilton, created the Global Youth Wellbeing Index. The Index measures the degree to which a young person’s environment supports their holistic success, and identifies where investments need to be made to ensure that youth can succeed.
As one of the largest hospitality companies in the world, Hilton plays a vital role in supporting individuals and countries to improve youth-focused outcomes. The travel and tourism industry is the world’s single largest employer, and we are constantly considering new ways to educate youth on a career in hospitality. Our 'Careers@Hilton' Week events allow us to promote Hilton opportunities and hotel career tracks for youth in the region. We also leverage our Hilton Careers social media channels to showcase the various aspects of a career in hospitality. These regional efforts form part of Hilton’s global goal to impact at least one million young people by 2019 by connecting, preparing or employing them.
