The bank holiday is here: a boon for employees but a bane for some employers.
Staff do want more time off. A survey last year by londonoffices.com found that 42% of the 1,000 employees surveyed confessed to calling in sick instead of taking annual leave following a long weekend break. 31% booked days next to bank holidays before their colleagues to eek out their holiday allowances.
Extra bank holidays would allow workers to spend more time with their family. In fact, the much-publicised 2017 Modern Family Index released earlier this year found that 48% of younger fathers would take a pay cut to achieve a better work-life balance.
So the appetite is there for more time off. Perhaps more bank holidays are the answer?
