Coffee. Undeniably, this popular stimulant is central to the UK’s economy. Not only do coffee chains and independent coffee shops create huge numbers of jobs – so many in fact that Pret A Manger’s HR Director claims that if she had to fill all her positions with British staff, she would be unable to do so – but they provide the early-morning kick many of us need to do that adult thing. The one where we sit down at our desks, answer the phone politely, type some emails, appear at meetings and nod like we understand what’s going on.
After a full five days of adulating, most of us try to unwind. Some like a bottle of vino, others might visit family and friends. However, if you’re wondering what else is out there, we’ve collated some ideas to really get revved up for the two days a week you can act like a kid and forego the grown-up act.
(Hint: This weekend’s first offering is in honour of that bean-based beverage that underpins, for many of us, a solid week of phone-answering and desk-sitting - y'know, making like you're adult.)
