This coming Monday is popularly known as ‘National Sickie Day,’ a time when employee absence seems to peak.

Dr Jill Miller, Research Adviser at the CIPD, believes that any increase in employee absenteeism could indicate more serious problems amongst members of the workforce – even though the private sector usually ranks illegitimate absence in the top five causes of absence.

Employees who pull ‘sickies’ may have out-of-work responsibilities for parents and offspring, could be suffering from untold mental pressures or, could be failing to implement a healthy work life balance. To put it simply - many of us need a rest.
