Shuttles | Demand for workplace transport surges as women seek harassment-free commutes

Employers are facing rising calls to offer shuttle services to and from their workplaces, amid ongoing concerns over the safety of women on their daily commutes.

Experts suggest that women face a “safety-work” burden in planning their travel as they attempt to avoid unsafe routes and escape harassment.

This creates challenges in maintaining employment, especially for individuals with roles outside of the traditional working hours.

“Women who work in roles that require working unsociable hours, such as healthcare or within the night-time economy, regularly report they avoid taking on shifts because they do not feel safe travelling to and from work,” warned Karen Whybro, a consultant specialising in women’s safety.
