With drastic action needed to tackle the UK’s youth unemployment problem, Sir Kier Starmer has issued a rallying cry to the nation’s employers.

“Backing young people is one of the most important investments we can make in this country’s future,” the Prime Minister said on Monday, as his government set out plans for a major youth employment drive.

Backed with £1billion in funding, the initiative promises to create 200,000 jobs for young people. It comes after February’s ONS figures – for the three months to December – showed the youth unemployment rate among 18-24-year-olds hit its highest level since 2020.

With youth unemployment now one of the biggest issues facing the UK, employers should consider what investment they can make in creating jobs and offering young people the chance to build careers.
