Tribunal | Lloyds' disciplinary action over employees' anti-Israel posts was 'heavy handed' - but not discrimination

Lloyds Banking Group did not discriminate on religious or political grounds after punishing two staff members for calling Israel's government “evil,” a tribunal has ruled.

Following their "ill-judged" comments about Israel, Afra Sohail and Aunngbeen Khalid were given final disciplinary warnings for their conduct and reported to the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) for gross misconduct.

Tribunal judges found that although Lloyds was “heavy-handed” with its punishment, the case did not amount to religious discrimination.

The bank said it is committed to creating an “inclusive place of work for everyone” and will continue to take action against employees it deems to have broken its conduct policy.
