The UK is in the grip of a major cold snap this week, with Storm Goretti's snow, ice and sub-zero temperatures affecting daily life and travel across much of the country.
Met Office amber and yellow and even red warnings for snow and ice remain in force in Scotland, northern England, Wales and Northern Ireland, and have prompted widespread disruption to schools, transport services and air travel.
Temperatures in some places have plunged as low as -12.5 °C, with many parts of the UK still struggling with heavy snow and freezing conditions as staff and students attempt to return to normal routines.
For HR teams this presents a range of challenges: should employees be expected to commute in dangerous conditions, work from home instead, or might the business need to close temporarily? Employers also need to think about staff wellbeing and safety both on the way to work and while at the workplace.
