Morrisons has ordered head office staff to return to working a full five-day week, abandoning a model which allowed them to compress their hours over four and a half days.

According to a report from the Telegraph, employees at the retailer’s head office in Bradford were told to return to their five-day schedule from this month.

A flexible working scheme introduced by Morrisons in 2020 previously permitted workers at the office to work 37.5 hours over a reduced number of days.

In a statement, the supermarket chain said it was a “difficult decision,” but competitive pressures meant a return to a full five-day week was necessary.
