Amid the never-ending spectacle of bitter title rivalries, agonising relegation battles, and topsy-turvy races for European football, the Premier League’s promotion of equality, diversity, & inclusion (EDI) continues to draw attention.
Perhaps most visibly for fans, the much-debated 'taking of the knee' – a symbol carried about by players to show that discrimination will not be tolerated in football or wider society – now finds itself as a media flashpoint on the dedicated matchdays on which it occurs.
Encouragingly, the Premier League says there is ongoing progress in long-term measures to address historic and systemic issues in the sport, including underrepresentation and discrimination.
Individual teams also continue to take their role in promoting EDI seriously.
