Newcastle United has announced plans for a skills mentorship scheme targeted at female staff and young girls seeking a career in football or sport.
The programme (think coaching and development initiatives, not a matchday magazine) will kick off over the next year, according to a post shared by the club.
Current and future workers at Newcastle United Football Club and the Newcastle United Foundation will be given access to extra training (think learning courses, not Becky Langley or Eddie Howe’s pre-match drills) as well as mentorship, coaching relationships, and skills workshops.

In the post, Newcastle United said “numerous research sources” show that up to 40% of young girls stop playing football in their teenage years.
