‘Looks bad’ | Did the ECB misfield complaints about The Hundred's gender pay gap?

Did the ECB misfield complaints about The Hundred's gender pay gap?

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has responded after England Cricket Captain Heather Knight said gender pay disparities in The Hundred “look bad.”

Knight’s comments addressed an increase in the gap between how much top men’s and women’s players will be paid during 2025’s competition.

The top level of compensation for men’s players will jump by 60% from £125,000 to £200,000. Meanwhile, the top rung for women’s players will also increase, but only by 30% from £50,000 to £65,000. The gap widens from £75,000 to £135,000.

Although far beyond the walls of the office and traditional office spaces, the story once again draws attention to the issue of gender pay disparity ahead of International Women’s Day 2025 on March 8th, offering a useful point of learning for HR and business leaders looking to sustain long-term progression toward gender equality.
