The BBC has apologised for its failures in handling “bullying and misogynistic behaviour” by former Radio 1 DJ Tim Westwood, admitting it “fell short and failed people.”
It follows the publishing of an independent report looking at how the BBC dealt with Westwood’s conduct after the DJ faced multiple complaints of workplace bullying and sexual misconduct.
The report found a “considerable body of evidence” supporting the complaints, concluding that the broadcaster failed to investigate them sufficiently.
A statement from the BBC board apologised on behalf of “the entire BBC” for its mistakes, promising action to ensure the failures would never be repeated.
