Ex-employee allegedly shuts down British Museum's IT systems after being fired

A former employee of the British Museum has been arrested after reportedly breaking into the museum and shutting down part of its IT and security network.

The worker had been fired by the museum a week earlier, according to a statement from the organisation.

The ex-employee was arrested at the scene on Thursday evening, while the damage and disruption caused by the individual forced parts of the venue to temporarily close.

Temporary exhibitions and galleries were shut on Friday and over the weekend after the worker gained unauthorised access to the museum and allegedly took down part of its IT network.
