‘Turbocharging’ | Starmer's AI promise: Big, buzzword-y, but lacking in guidance for businesses on employee reskilling

Starmer's AI promise: Big, buzzword-y, but lacking in guidance for businesses on employee reskilling

Earlier this week, Prime Minister Sir Kier Starmer announced a “decade of national renewal” for the UK and its investment in artificial intelligence (AI).

The Government says it will “mainline AI into the veins” of the UK, with plans including the creation of an AI supercomputer and the foundation of a dedicated AI Energy Council.

As you’d expect, Starmer’s speech – and the Government’s official statement – are a veritable treasure trove of buzzwords right from the off.

The release itself, for example, describes the plan as a ‘blueprint to turbocharge AI.’ Meanwhile, Starmer says AI “has the potential to transform the lives of working people,” but only if we “move fast and take action to win the global race.”
