Prime Minister Keir Starmer has unveiled ambitious plans to make the UK an AI "superpower" over the next 10 years.
Starmer’s Labour government said the plan would ‘unleash’ AI across the UK “to deliver a decade of national renewal” - with the PM saying he wanted to put AI at the heart of his ambition to grow the economy.
The announcement has been met with a cocktail of applause and apprehension from leading voices - most welcome the productivity boost it will bring, but there is also concern about the impact it will have on jobs and everyday workers.
The government says the technology could increase productivity by 1.5% a year, worth an extra £47 billion annually over the decade.
