Labour launches new four-day workweek trial - It's time for HR to act, regardless of the results

The first four-day workweek trial under the new Labour Government began yesterday, under which 1,000 UK workers will work a reduced workweek without sacrificing pay.

The pilot scheme, operated by the 4 Day Week Campaign, will involve 17 businesses growing to 21 in the coming months, most of which will test a four-day workweek. Others will test a nine-day fortnight.

The British Society for Immunology and Crate Brewery are among those to participate. Georgia Pearson, People Manager at the beer brewer, told the Guardian the trial is “somewhat groundbreaking” for the hospitality industry.

‘Groundbreaking’ change rarely happens overnight, but with yet another trial set to take place, it does feel like Groundhog Day has come three months early.
