August 15th 2024 is A Levels results day. It’s primarily a time of great prosperity and jubilation, with figures showing that the class of 2024 has achieved the highest grades since 2010.
But there'll also be great uncertainty for youngsters who haven't reached the height they expected, and might suddenly have concerns about their planned career paths taking a potential detour.
But when it comes to recruitment and HR, is it becoming an outdated ideal to expect applicants to have certain exam grades, or a degree? How fair is it to determine an entire cohort of teenagers’ employability and future outcomes on one set of exam results?
By focussing on these qualifications, are employers painting themselves into a corner and overlooking seriously good prospective workers?
