If you’ve seen Emily in Paris, you'll know that a new season is well on its way, dropping next week. With all of its juicy storylines and fashionable ensembles, at its core, the TV show is about a girl who is seconded from the US to France.
In the first season, a major storyline in the show is the confusion Emily feels having to say goodbye to her partner, who is continuing to live in the States, whilst she starts a new life in the European ‘city of love’.
We are also reminded of the reality that real-life secondments to another country rarely look like the beautiful fictional story in the show.
What do employers need to remember when placing a member of their staff in another country to work? Is working abroad all glitz and glamour? And how can employers address things like homesickness?
