Many personality traits are deemed valuable in the corporate world. Contentiousness, diligence and proactivity are just some examples of characteristics that have historically been seen as necessary for professionals to excel and develop up the ranks of an organisation.

Employers often seek individuals who exhibit these kinds of traits as they are associated with high performance and a collaborative growth-oriented workplace culture.

Increasingly, workers are taking it into their own hands to demonstrate to their employer that they have great ideas and the necessary personality traits to progress in the firm and be a leader.

Stamford University Academic and communication expert, Matt Abrahams, recently told CNBC Make It that having the power to be influential is going to be important in the future of work. But what does it actually mean to be influential? And why will it be so important moving forward?
