Going above and beyond at work has become something a paradox in the workplace recently.

Whereas once it was the best way to get noticed by the boss if you were angling for a pay rise or a promotion, these days a worrying number of employers expect their staff to go the extra mile as a default of their employment. In which case, they’re not really going above and beyond – you’re just exploiting their goodwill without remuneration.

Now, a celebrity business mogul has claimed that these kinds of employees are the only ones ‘worthwhile.

In a TikTok video, Barbara Corcoran, a highly successful entrepreneur who became a household name through her appearances on Shark Tank – the US equivalent to Dragons Den – said: "Always, always do more than you’re asked.
