Whilst the UK's process of legally 'unlocking' the nation has remained largely on-track, an undercurrent of unease likely came with Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s coy message of concern over the ‘Delta’ variant, which is now known to be around 60% more transmissible than its UK-counterpart, often referred to as the Alpha, or ‘Kent’ variant.
And in fact, Public Health England recently confirmed that the ‘Delta’ variant is likely to cause the most disruption to the UK’s unlocking timeline, now accounting for around 90% of new cases on these shores. Since last week, the number of ‘Delta’ variant cases across the UK has increased by 243% to 42,323, according to data published by Sky News.
