The past few years have been revelatory in defining what issues will be primary on the leadership agenda for the years to come. In the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, worker wellbeing has become a hotly debated topic, in part changing the way in which we view the structure of the working week.

In light of the civil rights movements spurred by the death of George Floyd in the US, companies are under more severe scrutiny to ensure that equality of all kinds has a place within working life. As a result, almost all of the world’s most visible leaders are in the process of reassessing their direction, with worker wellbeing and societal impact now considered to be the prime driver in any change. And, this week, 14 of the biggest names in the FTSE 100 and accountancy industry took their affirmative action one step further, by agreeing to be held accountable by a new association with the Purposeful Company scheme.

The list of 14 leaders that signed the pledge included CEOs at globally recognised companies such as Unilever, Capita and PwC – all of whom agreed to follow the Purposeful Company pledge to place the wellbeing of staff, local communities and broader society higher on the boardroom agenda.
