HR leader reveals daily WFH routine in lockdown

Wendy Seddig is Director of Talent and Culture at Premier Foods, a food manufacturer with brands such as Ambrosia, Bisto and Mr Kipling in its portfolio. In this exclusive interview with HR Grapevine, Wendy talks through her typical working day during lockdown.

“Each morning I wake up at 6am and start the day with a coffee and phone call to check in with my Mum. By 6.45am I am out walking my dog Mila before I get ready and enjoy breakfast. Before the pandemic, I was out the door for a lengthy commute at 6.30am, so am used to an early start, but it’s been nice to start the day productively with a walk outdoors.

“At 8.30am I start my working day, and prepare for upcoming meetings. First things first, since the start of lockdown every morning at 9.00am I have a check-in call with my team. There are seven of us, we rate how we are feeling and have general conversation. In an office environment there would be time to chat with colleagues about your evening, plans for the weekend, latest Netflix recommendations and I think it’s important to keep that alive.

“By 9.30am I’m on a call about the launch of a new leadership programme. It will be available to 90 leaders within the business and is designed to help them develop their skills within the current climate we find ourselves in. I’ll then be joining a two-hour committee call on our ESG agenda – I’m leading the team focused on our ‘people pillar’.
