Ever since the pandemic hit, many aspects of work have gone virtual.

Whether this is team meetings being conducted over Zoom, company training or hiring or onboarding new recruits, employers and HR have had to adapt traditional practices to suit this new remote context. Cielo’s Future of Work Survey found that talent acquisition (TA) teams have embraced new hiring practices during this time. The survey found that 59% interviewed candidates over video, 65% extended offers without meeting the candidate in person and 67% had virtually onboarded new starters. And it seems that many of these changes could be here to stay.

In fact, Cielo’s data found that 82% said that they will continue to conduct video interviews post-pandemic, while two-fifths said that they are happy with virtually onboarding new staff. With this being the case, it is crucial that employers create a seamless and positive onboarding experience for incoming talent. As an article by Reuters explained: “[The] task becomes a whole lot harder when the ‘onboarding’ is done during a pandemic that has forced millions to work from home, leaving new hires to judge colleagues on their taste in curtains and conduct on Zoom.” To help with this, HR Grapevine has collated three tips to help employers and HR ace pandemic onboarding.
