As coronavirus continues to define the experience of work for the vast majority of professionals around the world, many major employers are now looking to the future, to define what its lasting impact on structures will be.

Some, such as social media giants Facebook and Twitter, have confirmed long-term plans to ensure the safety of workers in the coming months, however other companies have established that they have no plans at all to return to any semblance of pre-existing structures.

In recent weeks, the likes of Mondelez, Nationwide, Barclays and Morgan Stanley have all talked about a permanent shift to work from home and reduced office space. Nationwide has already revealed plans to drastically downsize global office space, with CEO Kirt Walker, telling NBC: “We’ve been investing in our technological capabilities for years, and those investments really paid off when we needed to transition quickly to a 98% work-from-home model.

“Our associates and our technology team have proven to us that we can serve our members and partners with extraordinary care with a large portion of our team working from home.”
