As we collectively resign 2020’s historic and wholly stress-inducing events to history, leaders should be looking forward to a year that looks to offer hope and promise. Whilst the UK is facing a climb in COVID cases and many businesses are still struggling with furlough and safety issues, the Government’s message is hopeful that 2021 will be the year in which coronavirus will be defeated.
But whilst a glimmer of hope is now present, January will undoubtedly continue on the trajectory set by 2020, with many workers struggling to reconcile their family life, childcare, remote working and the economic ramifications of the current market. So, how can leaders ease the pressure on the current return to work? Here are five key examples.
Keep social activities going
January can be a hard month for many, with the holiday festivities over and several more wintery months ahead. So, to improve morale and ensure that staff members’ wellbeing is considered, employers could continue to host social work events in the New Year. These can take the form of quizzes, regular work drinks or even just a scheduled social hour within the working week.
