Job scammers have been a part of the recruitment world for some time, as fraudsters prey on hopeful jobseekers to make a quick buck.
Since the coronavirus pandemic struck, these fraudsters have risen tenfold, targeting those most vulnerable who have lost jobs due to the devasting impact the virus has had on the economy. SAFERjobs, a UK Government-backed charity working with police and industry, previously reported that it had witnessed a 66% rise in fake jobs during lockdown.
