Working from home has left many employees feeling reluctant to venture out the house; without the daily commute no longer are workers forced to leave their houses to get to work, plus with tea and coffee available in just a few steps in the kitchen, visits to coffee shops have also been reduced.
However, research has revealed that staying indoors will mean workers will not be getting enough sunlight throughout the day, resulting in Brits living a ‘mushroom existence’. As the winter months roll in and evenings get darker earlier, it’s expected that this will worsen over the coming period as employees continue to struggle with working life during a pandemic.
In a study commissioned by supplement brand Healthspan, it has been revealed that this winter could be more extreme with one in four admitting the lack of commute and covid-19 restrictions will mean they’ll spend even less time outside.
Others shared that they will see less daylight this winter due to seeing friends and family virtually (19%), while 40% said they are doing more online shopping than in previous years.
