With the economy still not back to its pre-coronavirus strength, it is inevitable that redundancy-related dismissals will be considered by many employers.

Indeed, the latest Office for National Statistics (ONS) data shows that redundancy rates, even prior to the furlough scheme ending, have reached levels not seen since the 2009 recession.

And with redundancies at high levels, Barry Clarke, The President of the Employment Tribunals, said he expects an increase in unfair redundancy claims – especially around the time when the furlough scheme is set to wind down.

As such, experts predict that there will be an increase in the use of settlement agreements as businesses across a range of sectors look to reduce the risk of tribunal claims, especially if something has gone wrong during the redundancy process.
