From July 1, 2020, ‘flexible furlough’ came into play, allowing employers to bring staff members back to work part-time if they wanted to.

Gov.uk stated that furloughed staff members can be brought back to work for any amount of time or shift pattern and are still able to claim the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (CJRS) grant for the hours not worked.

International law firm Bird & Bird wrote on its site that from July 1, 2020, employers are only able to furlough staff who they have already made a valid claim for between March 1, 2020 and June 30, 2020.

Essentially, this means that employees placed on furlough after July 1, 2020, must have been furloughed previously for at least three consecutive weeks commencing on or before the cut-off date of June 10, 2020.
