At a Tuesday address to the House of Commons, UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson, announced that the Government is easing lockdown measures in England.

This move will see some industry sectors such as hospitality and hairdressing return to work from July 4, 2020, and a reduction in the current social distancing rule which is now recommended at “one-metre plus”.

During the strict lockdown period – where some businesses had to operate at reduced capacity while other ‘non-essential’ organisations were forced to shut up shop altogether – many consumers resorted to online shopping because they weren’t able to visit shops in the flesh.

This is supported by statistics from money.co.uk which found that lockdown led to a surge in online shopping. More than one-third of Brits (37%) took to the internet more often than they did pre-pandemic for a bit of retail therapy, which could indicate a change in consumer behaviour.
