Belief in the importance of diversity and inclusion (D&I) has skyrocketed over the last few years.
Now it is viewed as a central facet of most HR strategies – guided by an understanding that a more diverse workforce breeds better creativity, more harmonious working environments and, ultimately a better comprehension of the customer.
Not only are there notable benefits to an organisation having a diverse workforce, but numerous studies have shown that jobseekers want to be recruited into diverse teams. For example, research from Glassdoor found that more than half of employees demand that diversity is a top priority, with almost seven in ten wanting to join a diverse team. While diversity and inclusion has been a crucial part of HR’s remit, it is possible that some employers may have taken their eye off the ball during the pandemic when it comes to D&I – focussing instead on financial success to keep businesses ticking over and overseeing the remote working set-ups for staff during the pandemic.
