Every June there is usually a focus on diversity for HR due to Pride month.
This year, with global demonstrations regards better racial inclusivity taking place, there has been increased focus on how businesses do regards diversity – whether that means including all identities and sexualities or races at work.
Yet, if firms go back to the start of the pandemic – I know several months seems like a lifetime ago – it can seem that all efforts that weren’t immediately focussed on business continuity or crisis management had to be put to one side.
This isn’t the right approach, explained Dessalen Wood, Chief People Officer at Thoughtexchange, a crowdsourcing tool for leaders. During this time, Wood exclusively told HR Grapevine: ” D&I can be seen as a higher-order imperative, which is quickly drowned out by the lower levels of his pyramid reserved for concerns around safety and survival.”
